Ph.D. in Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin, 1993.

Anita Puckett is a linguistic anthropologist with research interests in language and culture relationships, with a special interest in language and materiality and language and technology relations.  She also specializes in an interdisciplinary approach to Appalachian Studies.  She is the author of Seldom Ask, Never Tell:  Labor and Discourse in Appalachia (Oxford, 2000).   She has published in the Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, Pragmatics, Anthropological Quarterly, Journal of the Appalachian Studies Association, and the Appalachian Journal, as well as in numerous edited volumes and encyclopedias.

Dr. Puckett directs the Appalachian Studies Program . She also is the Virginia Tech faculty director for the South Atlantic Humanities Center and is the director of the Center for Ulster Migrations, Cultures, and Societies.  She serves on the Editorial Review Board of Southern Spaces, the Editorial Board of The Cumberland Gap Journal of Early American Culture, and the Advisory Board of the Scotch Irish Foundation.
